…as long as you agree!
One of the founding principles of America is Freedom of Speech. Sadly, that freedom has been misconstrued to mean many things that have nothing to do with “speech” but actually the broader sense of self-expression. If someone wants to burn a bra, free speech. Burn a draft card, free speech. Burn the Bible, free speech. Burn the flag, free speech. Burn the Koran, apologize to Afghanistan! Really???
Yes, this is a country where a college student can testify before a Congressional subcommittee about why she needs affordable birth control and where the President personally calls her to apologize for the comments of a radio personality. Why is Congress taking testimony from a college student rather than working to shore up the economy? Why is Obama taking time to make a personal phone call rather than address Iran’s nuclear aspirations?
Well, this is not about those Washington debacles but rather the shameful and shameless attacks on Kirk Cameron. On the nationally aired “Piers Morgan Tonight” program, host Piers Morgan asks Kirk for his personal views on homosexuality. Kirk responds carefully but candidly with his views. HIS views. Not his unsolicited views, but his SOLICITED views.
“I think that it’s unnatural, I think that it’s detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
But that opinion doesn’t fit the agenda of many in America who would trade Freedom of Speech for Freedom of Sex. One is a Constitutional right, the other is not—unless you broadly interpret sex under freedom of expression.
Back to the point. America has become the ‘land of the free” as long as that “free” goes along with the popular mindset. That a person can be asked his opinion on homosexuality, share it, and be so attacked is truly indicative of what is wrong with America today.
At the same time, news outlets that are covering the story today are overlooking the movie, “Monumental”, which Kirk was on the show to promote. Its message is one that many don’t want to have heard because it is contrary to the world system. By drawing negative attention to an honest opinion, I’m sure they hope to discredit Kirk and the movie.
Anyone who doubts that there is spiritual warfare at work here is likely an atheist or is apathetic.
