Is that what defenders of the Constitution are being called these days?
Anyone who applies for a job these days is required to show proof of their legal status to work in this country. It doesn’t matter if the job is collecting trash or writing code for IBM—and it shouldn’t matter if the job is running the country. Perhaps it should matter even more in this case.
That evidence is required to be shown to the appropriate hiring authority though, not to the entire world. In the case of President Obama, would it be too much for the Congress to be required to prove citizenship?
So the then-candidate Barack Obama produced a document issued by the State of Hawai’i which is offered as proof of his birth there. Here’s an image of the document as posted on http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/06/obama-birth.html. The document can be found on a variety of sites and is consistent in its appearance. It should be possible to produce one from 1961 with any privacy info redacted.
It has been noted on several sites that the certificate shown is not the original. The paper used is a newer security design such as was used many years later, the printing appears to be computer based and not type-writer produced as you would expect in 1961, and the font used is newer and also comupter based.
The bottom of the document shows the form to be OHSM 1.1 with a Revision date of November, 2001 (11/01). This document was produced at least 40 years after the event it is supposed to document. When was it produced? If it’s authentic, simply look at the document itself for the answer: “Jun 6, 2007”.
How can I say that? Look at the document to the right of the “Date Filed” and just a little above the footer words “…the fact of birth in any court…” and you will see a reverse image of blue type. The date is presumably bleeding through from the back of the document. A simple image application is capable of flipping the image from left to right and then magnifying the type. You will see the 2007 date.
I don’t think anyone was trying to say that this is the original birth certificate and if they were, then they’re stupider than they think we are. No, supposedly the State of Hawai’i cannot release the original birth certificate to anyone without appropriate consent and therefore, under HRS0338-0013, can only issue a certified “copy” which is not actually a copy, but a statement of “fact” based on the original.
That does not mean that the original does not exist. But if it doesn’t, then to produce a certified copy could constitute fraud and counterfeiting. So what of the hospital records? Was he really born at Honolulu’s Kapiolani Maternity & Gynecological Hospital? Where are the attending doctors, nurses, staff, etc? I was born in 1960 and can show a valid birth certificate without having to go back to my home state to get it, and can easily show the names of the attending staff and produce a trail that would lead to finding where they are today. Too much to ask, Mr Obama?
Better still, why would Mr Obama simply not produce the original or copy of the original to the appropriate authorities? Well, there are no appropriate authorities and many people simply seem to no longer care about this question.
The scary thing is the attitude people have as in the AOL article below:
But what if Obama hadn’t been born in the USA? “I wouldn’t give a damn if Obama was born in a cave in Afghanistan,” Mark McKinnon wrote in Tuesday’s Daily Beast. The former Bush and McCain strategist added: “There is no more an American story than Barack Obama.”
Wow! This person is so enamored with Mr Obama that Constitution Be Damned! What about the rule of law, Mark? Is it American to trample our Constitution? Would you accept an illegal immigrant from Mexico as President just because he lived the American dream and succeeded? How about Arnold Schwarzenegger?
It is not just a question of whether Barack Obama is a US citizen by birth, but rather to what extent are we willing to trample American values to achieve American values? How can someone not care about the enforcement of the US Constitution? I’m actually outraged over the ignorance Mark McKinnon exhibited in his statement!
Others have shown additional problems with the document which calls into question its authenticity. The first site below has some interesting points but may be in part the result of a bad monitor or poor eyesight. The inter-spacing images on my screen look fine but the borders are questionable. True, I could have done a better job though.
