If I had not witnessed this myself, I would have thought someone was making it up. I was at the City-County Building last week—this is the center of government for the combined Indianpolis/Marion County metroplitan area—and was in line behind a woman. She was reporting her license plates as having been stolen from off her car while she was in a laundromat. After explaining the whole thing to the clerk, there were a few points that needed clarifying:
Clerk: Which car was it? (looking at paperwork)
Woman: My car.
Clerk: What was the make and model? (Annoyed)
Clerk: And where was the car?
Woman: In the laundromat parking lot.
Clerk: What was the address or location of the laundromat? (sounding slightly more annoyed)
I tried hard to supress any laughter.
Communication is an art form. Unfortuantely, there are still a lot of people satisfied to finger paint and work with crayons.
