January 2009 will see many “firsts”, among which I find a few of them to be quite exciting—some of them not. For starters, this coming weekend sees the first episode of the 7th season of “24”. Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is back for another “day-in-the-improbable-life-of” series which has seen more than its share of killed-revived protagonist-turned-antagonist. Anyone remember Nina? The beautiful CTU agent (Sarah Clarke) who has a history with Jack, who “dies”, but was so well-liked that they brought her back in the following season as “the bad guy”? And so this year, we get to see Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) come back to life as well. Maybe the eighth season should be subtitled “Reincarnation”.
So what else exciting is happening in January? With any luck, a new blog service will be introduced that will give bloggers and readers something to really blog about. We’ll see.
Oh, and that inauguration thing on the 20th? Well, I DID want to stay focused on exciting events…
The more I see and hear about the Obama presidency, the more I am reminded of movies in which charismatic leaders step out of the shadows to lead a nation or the world into some “Novus Ordo Seclorum”. Usually, the person has some nondescript title like “The Leader”—a venerated personage who seems to transcend time, space, and law. I don’t know—I look at the days and years to come with a skeptic’s eye. We’ll see.
OK, back to the exciting events: Wait! I already mentioned “24” and the new Blog service didn’t I? Guess there’s not much to touch on.
